These instructions will help you setup any Ethernet LAN thermal printer.
This tutorial does NOT cover usb, bluetooth and wifi thermal printers.
Thermal printers with Ethernet cable are not supported from the www.waiterio.com webapp.
Install the app for Android, iOS, Windows or macOS.
A) Find out the IP address of your thermal printer
- Turn off the printer
- Connect the printer to the electricity and connect an Ethernet cable from the printer to your wifi router
- Press down the Feed button and keep it pressed, then turn on the printer while still pressing the Feed button. After 5 seconds the printer should print a paper with written its current settings
- Read the setting paper and find the IP address. The IP address should look like 192.168.y.x
Your wifi router has two IP address:
- public IP address used to connect to the internet
- local IP address used to identify the wifi router within the Local Area Network
The local IP address is the one that we want to find out since the thermal printer is connected to the Local Area Network.
Read this tutorial to find out the local IP address:
How to Find Your Router’s IP Address on Any Computer, Smartphone, or Tablet
The IP address of your printer must have the same first 3 numbers of the IP address of your wifi router.
For example:
Wifi router IP address is 192.168.1.0
Printer IP address is 192.168.1.100
If the two IP addresses first 3 numbers are matching you can skip to step E)
D) Change IP addresses range of wifi routerIn case the first three numbers of the two IP addresses are not matching you will need to follow these steps:
- Open the browser (Chrome, Firefox, Internet Explorer,...) on any computer/smartphone/tablet that is connected to the same wifi router where the printer is connected
- Enter the IP address of your wifi router in the URL address bar and tap enter to visit it
- Enter the wifi router web interface username and password (usually by default are both admin and/or password)
- Change the subnet mask of your router (usually 192.168.0.x or 192.168.1.x) to 192.168.y.x where the y is the same as the third number of the IP address of you printer.
- Apply the changes and wait for the router to restart
- Restart your computer and restart your printer
- Visit the new IP address of your router to be sure it changed correctly
- Visit the IP address of your printer to be sure that is now visible to the other devices of the Local Area Network
- OPTIONAL If you want you can change the IP address of your printer from its web interface and then change back the IP address range of your router
- Open the browser (Chrome, Firefox, Internet Explorer,...) on any computer/smartphone/tablet that is connected to the same wifi router where the printer is connected
